The IELTS Speaking test is your chance to shine in front of the examiner - showing your fluency, pronunciation, and ability to express ideas clearly.
It’s a one-on-one conversation lasting 11–14 minutes, divided into three parts.
Here’s how each section works and how you can make a great impression!
This section is all about simple, familiar topics — like your home, work, studies, or hobbies.
Think of it as a friendly conversation to help you relax and show your natural English skills.
Common Questions:
Where are you from?
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Do you prefer living in a city or the countryside?
Tips to Succeed:
✅ Speak naturally - don’t memorize.
✅ Add short details to your answers.
✅ Use everyday expressions confidently.
Sample Answer:
“I live in Regina, which is a peaceful and friendly city. I love how people always smile and say hello. On weekends, I usually go for coffee with friends or take a walk by Wascana Lake.”
In Part 2, you’ll receive a cue card with a topic and have one minute to prepare. Then you’ll speak for one to two minutes.
This is your moment to tell a story - make it personal and engaging!
Example Cue Card:
Describe a memorable trip you had.
Tips to Shine:
✅ Write down quick notes (not full sentences).
✅ Speak in order - beginning, middle, end.
✅ Use adjectives and connect your ideas smoothly.
Sample Start:
“One of my most memorable trips was to Banff National Park last summer. I went there with my cousins from Saskatoon, and it was the first time I saw real mountains. The view was absolutely breathtaking…”
This final part focuses on discussion and reasoning.
The examiner will ask broader, opinion-based questions related to your Part 2 topic.
Example Questions:
Why do people like to travel?
How has tourism changed over time?
Is travelling important for young people?
Tips for a Strong Finish:
✅ Give reasons and examples - show your thinking.
✅ Use linking phrases like “I believe…”, “On the other hand…”, or “For example…”.
✅ Stay calm and speak clearly - it’s not about being perfect, it’s about being confident.
Sample Answer:
“I think travelling is important because it helps people see new perspectives. These days, more people travel because of cheap flights and social media. It makes the world feel smaller and more connected.”
